Barcelona ‘can’t afford to lose anyone’ in January - Bartomeu
The president is expecting a quiet window
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has appeared to rule out selling any players in the January transfer window.
Midfielders such as Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Carles Alena have all been linked with moves away as has 19-year-old centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.
However, Bartomeu says he is expecting a quiet transfer window this winter and believes it would not be in the club’s interests to let any of their stars depart.
“We are not expecting any movement in January. We have a balanced squad; we don’t miss anything, but we can’t afford to lose anyone,” he said.
“It has happened several times to me already [a player showing a desire to be transferred]. Never in January, but at the end of the season. In some cases, we let them go. Other times, we convince them to stay.”

Rakitic has returned to the Barca starting XI in recent weeks and has reiterated his desire to stay, while Alena spoke after the win over Mallorca and said he hasn’t made a decision on his future yet.
Vidal spoke earlier in the season about how he may consider his future if he struggled for game time at the Camp Nou, but recent rumors have suggests Barca have no intention of letting him leave in January.
