Expect changes with top spot in the group already assured

Barcelona play their final Champions League group fixture on Tuesday in the San Siro against Inter Milan and are already guaranteed to qualify as group winners.

Ernesto Valverde is therefore expected to rotate his side ahead of tricky La Liga fixtures against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.

The game should offer some of the club’s youngsters and fringe players some rare game time, so let’s have a look at who might feature in Italy.

Defence

Tuesday’s match looks the perfect chance for Neto to get a rare start in goal and hand assist-king Marc-Andre ter Stegen the chance to put his feet up.

Jordi Alba and Nelson Semedo are back in training but may not be quite ready for this one, so Sergi Roberto and Junior Firpo should continue at full-back.

In central defence Samuel Umtiti could come back into the team, while Ronald Araujo and Jean-Clair Todibo could possibly partner the Frenchman in the heart of the defence.

Regulars Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong could get the night off, allowing Carles Alena, Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic some much-needed game time.

Vidal and Rakitic have both been linked with a move to Inter Milan in the January transfer window after struggling for regular football this season at the Camp Nou.

Arthur missed Saturday’s clash with Real Mallorca with injury, and it’s not clear if he is fit to return or will once again be sidelined.

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann were all on target at the weekend, but this is the perfect opportunity to rest key players ahead of some crucial fixtures.

However, it is not quite as simple as all that. Ousmane Dembele is out until 2020, while Ansu Fati missed the Mallorca clash with injury and may not return in time.

Carles Perez is fit and available and could get a rare chance in the starting XI. He trained with the first team again on Sunday as they began their preparations for the match.

Possible XI: Neto; Roberto, Araujo, Umtiti, Junior; Rakitic, Vidal, Alena; Messi, Griezmann, Perez.
