Signing the midfielder would be ‘phenomenal’

Getafe president Angel Torres has talked up a loan move for Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old is expected to depart this winter in search of regular game time, and it seems he would be welcome to spend the rest of the season at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Torres says the club have followed Alena for two years and would have tried to sign him before but for an injury to Rafinha.

“If Aleña’s transfer comes off, it would be phenomenal. If it is up to Barcelona, it can happen,” he said.

“I saw the possibility of Alena a few days ago and if the boy wants to come, then the coach told me that it could be interesting.

“We already wanted him two years ago, but Rafinha was injured, it depends on Barcelona and the boy. We haven’t talked to him yet.”

Getafe are one of several La Liga clubs who have been linked with Alena, and it is looking increasing likely he will leave in January.

If he did move to Getafe he would like up with Marc Cucurella, who joined on loan at the start of the season and has been a regular in the team.
