Barcelona is the best club for young players to improve

Patrick Kluivert returned to Barcelona last year. The Dutchman took over the club’s director of youth football position last summer and has emphasized loyalty as apart of the youth system.

In an interview with Marca this week, Kluivert discussed the youth players’ feelings towards the club itself as well as Ansu Fati.

When asked about strategy towards players who might want to leave the club for more money, Kluivert said that they need to respect the club.

“The boys of La Masia have the best training in the world. They should not leave just for money, especially young people aged 15 or 16 who are ready to sign their first professional contract. There are other great clubs that can offer you more money, but to improve a player until the age of 18, Barcelona are the best club there is. And not only do we help them grow as football players, but also as people, because we teach them to respect the values of life.”

He also was asked about Ansu Fati, and whether or not a lack of playing time will cause him to leave the club.

“Ansu Fati will stay at the club. That’s clear.”

Ansu signed a new Barcelona deal on Wednesday that runs until 2022 and is extendable by a further two seasons. It also includes an increased buyout clause of €170 million.
