Valverde surprised by Suarez’s backheel against Mallorca
The Barcelona boss thought he was trying to pass
Ernesto Valverde admitted he was surprised by Luis Suarez’s backheeled goal against Real Mallorca after Saturday’s 5-2 win at the Camp Nou.
The Uruguayan got on the scoresheet in some style, finishing off a lovely move with a goal that will surely be up for next year’s Puskas Award.
Valverde admitted it was a stunning strike when he was asked about Suarez after the match.
“The situation took me by surprise,” Valverde said. “I thought it was a pass to a teammate.
”It surprised me, but it was an extraordinary goal. I told him that there had been a few easier chances and this one, which was improbable, went in.”

Barca’s win takes them back to the top of La Liga ahead of tricky fixtures against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. Next up though is a trip to the San Siro to face Inter in their final Champions League group game.
