Setien talks managing Messi at Barcelona
The coach says there will never be another like his captain
Quique Setien has been talking about Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and what he feels about now being the coach of the greatest player on the planet.
The 61-year-old made it clear he thinks Messi is utterly unique and says it’s his job now to get the best out of his skipper and keep him happy.
“I agree with everything that has been said about Messi. I think that the impact he has in every single game is tremendous. There hasn’t been a better player in the history of the game at least that I have seen.
“He is tremendously decisive throughout the game, in every game. I think that ultimately he’s a totally unique footballer. I think it will be impossible to witness another player like him, impossible.
“And now I have a different perspective, now this is a player I have to coach. I have to get the best out of him. I have to make sure he’s happy, and I don’t need to explain this is important not only for the club, but for his team-mates, for everything.
“But truly he’s a player you don’t have to say anything to. You see in training how incredibly competitive he is. Sometimes it’s difficult to explain but of course it’s marvellous.”

Messi is La Liga’s top scorer so far this season with 13 goals from 14 appearances in the Spanish top flight, but Setien will have to make changes to his attack with Luis Suarez out for four months due to injury.
