Setién’s first decisions: keep Vidal, look for a No. 9 - report
The new manager has some choices to make
Quique Setién has a few decisions to make with the winter transfer window still open. The new FC Barcelona coach has apparently decided on keeping Arturo Vidal for the time being, rather than selling him to Inter Milan. Meanwhile, he has to decide whether he wants a new forward to cover the absence of Luis Suárez. That’s all according to Diario SPORT.
Vidal has reportedly been upset at the lack of playing time under Ernesto Valverde and was willing to make noise to try to force a move to Serie A. But, the arrival of a new manager brings new opportunities, and it seems Vidal might be more willing to stay and make his case to a new coach.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will look at the market to see if there is a forward who will fit into the team. However, after the signing of Kevin Prince Boateng last season turned into a failure, it’s understandable that Barcelona would be more wary of signing a cheap alternative in this year’s winter market.
Unless a really good deal presents itself, chances are that Barça will stick by youngsters Ansu Fati and Carles Pérez to give depth at the forward positions. Antoine Griezmann or Lionel Messi may play centrally, while the return of Ousmane Dembélé from injury also give options in attack.
