The Frenchman’s season is over

Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday that Ousmane Dembele will be out for six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn hamstring in Finland.

The Frenchman was forced to go under the knife after picking up the problem in training as he was working his way back from a thigh injury sustained against Dortmund in November.

Here’s Barca’s official statement:

“The first team player Ousmane Dembéle has successfully undergone surgery in Turku, Finland where he was operated on by Dr. Lasse Lempainen for a ruptured tendon in his proximal hamstring in his right thigh. The Frenchman will be out for around 6 months.

“The striker was continuing his recovery from the hamstring injury when he was forced to retire from a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva last week. Subsequent tests confirmed a complete rupture to the tendon in the proximal hamstring of his right leg.”

Dembele’s latest injury setback means his 2019-20 campaign is now over and he must now focus on getting fit in time for next season.

He’s made a total of just nine appearances for the club in 2019-20 and scored once, his goal coming against Sevilla in a 4-0 La Liga win in which he was also sent off.

Barcelona’s update also means they are likely to be allowed to bring in a player outside of the transfer window.

Get well soon Ousmane Dembele.
