Oriol Busquets says he’ll return a better player after loan

Dutch Eredivisie”RKC Waalwijk v FC Twente Enschede”

The youngster has learnt plenty in the Eredivisie

Oriol Busquets has given a pretty interesting interview to Mundo Deportivo where he’s talked about his season on loan in the Eredivisie with FC Twente and his hopes for the future.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed regular football in the Netherlands, featuring in 17 of his club’s 21 league games in 2019-20. FC Twente are currently 13th in the standings.

Busquets has been used in central midfield and in defence this season and says he needed to go out on loan as his spell at FC Twente will make him a better footballer.

“I’m growing a lot because it’s allowing me to see what’s out there. I hope to return to Barça and prove what I am worth, taking into account what I have experienced. The intention was to be a better player and I think I’m on the way. I still have to improve things and I can contribute more, but next year I will be much better footballer.

“Everyone has to value what they have and what they need. In my case I needed this year outside and I recommend it. Even more so in a league where you try to play football, it is not one of the big four, but it is a very beautiful competition. It’s difficult to leave Barça if they don’t kick you out, but sometimes you have to play it to grow. Leaving the comfort zone, sometimes it goes well.”

Busquets is one of a number of young Barca stars out on loan currently but he also says he is looking forward to coming back to Spain. The youngster has not given up hope of forcing his way into the first team and is willing to play in either defence or midfield.

“At Barça I would play in any position, I would not care. It is clear that better if I can also play central, it always helps, and versatility is good for the player. It has been good to have this option because I have also improved defensive aspects that I lacked.

“It is very difficult to make a place in the best team in the world, but you have to be optimistic and think that you can get what you want. If in the preseason they give me the opportunity to show that I can stay, I will take advantage of it.”

Quique Setien has said he’s willing to give Barca’s youngsters a chance which should offer Busquets optimism that he can make it at the Camp Nou when he returns.

Barcelona have plenty of midfield options to choose from making competition for places fierce, but they are short of options at the back which may be good news for Busquets.
