Rakitic invited to join Villarreal by club president

The midfielder has been tipped to leave Camp Nou

Villarreal president Fernando Roig has said he’d welcome Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic to the club if the Croatian fancies a change of scenery this summer.

The 32-year-old is one of several Barca players being linked with a Camp Nou exit when the transfer window reopens and reports have suggested he’d prefer to stay in Spain.

Rakitic has said recently he wants to get back to playing as soon as possible, and Roig agrees with the Croatian and also said he’d be happy for him to join his club.

”I love Rakitic’s message and I also like him as a footballer, if next year he wants to come to Villarreal, here we are, ” he said.

The midfielder’s current deal expires in summer 2021 and Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have already been mentioned as possible destinations.
