Chelsea, Manchester United, Leicester City in for Coutinho - report
Newcastle United seems interested as well
Several English clubs are in for Philippe Coutinho, with a few surprising names in the mix, according to a new report.
Chelsea, Manchester United, and Leicester City are in for the Brazilian, having reportedly contacted both his agent and FC Barcelona. The Brazilian plays on loan to Bayern Munich, although it is understood the Bavarians will not use their purchase clause on him.
Newcastle United are rumored to also want Coutinho, although in their case, they have not made contact with the agent or the selling club.
Barcelona are said to be convinced that they want to keep Antoine Griezmann, and to be equally sure they do not want to keep Coutinho. The primary interest would be to sell him for cash, not for a player swap.
Chelsea are rumored to be the player’s favorite destination, in part because his previous association with Liverpool makes a move to Manchester United awkward.
Leicester would see him reunite with his old coach, Brendan Rodgers, although the manager himself had previously said Coutinho was too expensive for his relatively modest club. It would also be shocking for Newcastle to make such a large investment on a player.
Barcelona supposedly want 80 or 90 million euros for him, but that will be hard in the current market. Still, the team that offers the most money would be the ones to take him, as the Catalans do not mind who the buyer is, or so it is said.
