Chimy Avila says he almost became a Barcelona player
The striker came close to a move to the Camp Nou
Osasuna striker Chimy Avila has said he came close to a move to Barcelona in the January transfer window before he suffered a serious knee injury.
The Catalan giants tried and failed to land an attacker in the winter window, eventually being given permission to sign Martin Braithwaite on an emergency transfer in February.
Avila says Barcelona were interested and also spoke about his hopes of being able to force his way into the Argentina set-up.
“I almost became a Barcelona player, but it didn’t happen. A lot of people thought it was going to happen, including myself, I was on a great run of form.
“The Argentine national team is something that every player would love to get to. I always dreamed it and thought it was close, but I looked at the list and it didn’t appear. I will continue working to achieve it.”

Avila enjoyed an impressive 2019-20, netting nine times in La Liga, until he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against Levante in January.
