Frenkie de Jong back in Barcelona as football hints at a return
He had been staying in Amsterdam
Midfielder Frenkie de Jong has returned to Barcelona as La Liga’s coronavirus pause hints at finally ending. Players are expected to come back to training pitches soon, albeit to work separately, with an eye towards a gradual re-opening.
De Jong had spent time in Amsterdam with his girlfriend while training from home when Spain and other European countries mandated closings of non-essential businesses.
After about two months away, De Jong was able to return without complications.
The rest of the squad remained in Catalonia during the lockdown, apart from Martin Braithwaite, who returned to his previous home in Madrid to quarantine and maintain his training regimen.
Barcelona expect their training ground to pass inspections and to administer tests to coaches and players before proceeding with a gradual resumption of practices.
