The relationship between the club and the Croatian are not doing so well

The relationship between Ivan Rakitić and FC Barcelona is going through its worst moments since the Croatian’s arrival in 2014, according to a new report.

The Catalans are reportedly looking to use him as a bargaining chip in a bigger deal, for example, giving him to Inter Milan in part exchange for Lautaro Martínez.

But Rakitić himself reportedly only wants to leave if he can join his former team, Sevilla. That’s the club his wife supports, which still holds a special place in the Croatian’s heart.

Yet, Sevilla are not willing to pay the kind of money Barcelona expect for the midfielder. So the only club Rakitić is willing to leave for is not able to pay the price. Thus, the report says, Rakitić is willing to sit on the bench until his contract runs out next year, at which point he’ll be able to join any club he wants for no transfer fee.

Rakitić has made it clear publicly, saying: “I will decide my future, I will not be treated like a sack of potatoes.”
