Heading back to Newell’s Old Boys would be ‘complicated’

Lionel Messi’s cousin, Maxi Biancucchi, has been talking about the Barcelona captain’s future and why he thinks it’s unlikely he will return to play in Argentina.

The GOAT has spoken openly about how he’d love to play for boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys before he hangs up his boots, although he’s also said he does not know if it would be possible.

Biancucchi has said he would love to see Messi play for his former club again but thinks it is unlikely due to security reasons.

“Leo has a lot of love for Argentina, people never understand him. If it wasn’t for the insecurity, I have no doubts that he would play in Argentina, that’s the only thing than can affect him returning,” Biancucchi said.

“It is my dream to be able to see Leo at Newell’s, but I see him as complicated. It is difficult, imagine that Messi plays a classic, the kids have to go to school. It’s my dream to see him there. It’s difficult, imagine if Messi played a clasico, the kids having to go to school... the city is a madhouse.”

It seems increasingly likely that Messi will finish his career at Barcelona. He has talked recently about how settled his young family is in the city and that he would like to retire at the Camp Nou.

The Argentina international’s current contract runs out next summer, although a contract renewal is said to be one of Barcelona’s top priorities this summer.
