Umtiti will ‘almost certainly’ stay at Barcelona - report
Setien trusts him and the defender doesn’t want to leave
Samuel Umtiti is one of several Barcelona players being tipped to leave in the summer, but the Frenchman will “almost certainly” still be at the club next season.
In fact the chances of Umtiti leaving the Camp Nou are described as “practically zero” despite the speculation, according to Marca.
The report states there are two main reasons why Umtiti is likely to stay on. The first is Barcelona’s decision to replace Ernesto Valverde with Quique Setien.
Umtiti has played more regularly under Setien, starting ahead of Clement Lenglet in El Clasico for example, and seems to have the coach’s trust.
The second reason is that Umtiti, like many others, simply does not want to go. The defender has said on several occasions he’s happy at the club and nothing has changed.
Barcelona are said to be still pondering bringing in another centre-back in the summer but it’s below signing a new attacker and a midfielder in their list of priorities.
