Bet on youth or simply splash the cash...

Ansu Fati is headline news on Thursday with Barcelona apparently having a bit of a dilemma over their 17-year-old star.

Mundo Deportivo reckon there is big “internal debate” at the club right now over whether to trust in the talented teenager or simply spend some cash on Memphis Depay instead.

The club are keen to offload Luis Suarez this summer but that will leave them without a No. 9 for next season. Lautaro Martinez is too expensive and Memphis is now a target.

Yet the club could save even more cash by playing Fati at No. 9. The youngster has already shown his quality but it would be a bit of a gamble given his young age.

Ronald Koeman likes Memphis and knows him well, but he will not come cheap and is valued at around €30m by Lyon despite being in the last year of his contract.

The arrival of the Netherlands international would also surely mean less playing time for Fati next season, particularly with Messi, Griezmann, Trincao and Braithwaite still in the squad.

Fati returned to the club on Wednesday to continue pre-season training after breaking more records with a goal for Spain in the Nations League.

His strike against Ukraine, on his first ever senior international start, ensured he is now Spain’s youngest ever goalscorer.
