Barcelona can get some money from the deal through incentives

Longtime Barcelona squad player Rafinha is set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, that nonetheless could earn the blaugrana some money, according to Catalan TV.

The player would join in a deal that would be free at first but could rise to 3 million depending on incentives. In addition, Barcelona would earn 35% of any future sale.

The deal has not been officially confirmed so there is a chance it could break down before the transfer window shuts today. Another report confirmed the deal was being worked on but called it “complicated” rather than confirming it would go through.

Rafinha has been a part of Barcelona’s setup since beginning his youth career in 2006. However, he had spent the majority of the last few years on loan, mostly to Celta Vigo.

Primarily a midfielder, he can operate as a winger and has even on occasion played as a wingback. In particular, he was the starting right wingback against PSG when Barcelona defeated them 6-1 in a legendary UEFA Champions League encounter.

He is a three-time La Liga winner and a two-time Copa del Rey champion with Barcelona.

The brother of Liverpool’s Thiago, another Barcelona academy boy, Rafinha represented Spain at youth level alongside his sibling. However, unlike Thiago, he chose to play for Brazil’s senior team in the end.
