But Ansu Fati’s injury may halt that plan

Barcelona may be halting plans to offload Ousmane Dembélé in January due to Ansu Fati’s long-term injury, although the club is afraid of losing the French winger on a free transfer, according to a new report.

Dembélé’s deal expires in a year and a half, and Barcelona have been rumored to want to sell him for a big cash injection. Manchester United supposedly were interested in the previous transfer window, although the forward himself rejected the option.

Barcelona want to raise funds to land Memphis Depay from Lyon, who has admitted he may not finish the season there. However, Fati’s injury will put the young star four months on the sidelines. Barcelona may be less willing to let Dembélé go under the circumstances, doubly so if the Frenchman continues to perform well in terms of scoring (he scored the opening goal in the 5-2 win over Real Betis.)

Still, it is said coaches question his defensive contribution and tactical discipline. Another factor is the club does not want to go into the final year of his contract. They want to either sell him, or agree to extend the deal.
