Spain 6-0 Germany: Recap
A truly dominant night by Luis Enrique’s men
The UEFA Nations League group stage came to an end for League A’s Group 4 on Tuesday, and Spain have qualified for next year’s Final Four thanks to a spectacular 6-0 win over Germany in Seville. La Roja needed the win to overtake the Germans in the standings, and they did in dominant fashion, completely stomping the Mannschaft for 90 minutes with Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto playing the entire game and enjoying an amazing performance by his teammates.
FIRST HALF
There’s only one word to describe the first half: destruction. Spain absolutely dominated the Germans from the very first second, overwhelming the opposition with unbelievable hunger and intensity with and without the ball, and the chances kept coming, thick and fast, with Manuel Neuer trying to survive as much as he could as the defense in front of him kept being carved open by La Roja.
It didn’t take long for the Spanish to score, however: Álvaro Morata headed home a Fabián Ruiz corner just 17 minutes in, then Ferrán Torres missed two huge chances before scoring the second with a beautiful strike, and Rodri scored off another Fabián corner to make it 3-0 less than 40 minutes into the game.
The Mannschaft looked stunned and defeated, and as we reached halftime it looked like Spain’s place in the Finals was secured.
SECOND HALF
Things did not change to start the second half, even though Germany tried to have more of the ball and go forward with more bodies. Spain continued to be perfect with the ball and created chance after chance, and Ferrán Torres completed a magical night with a hat-trick, first with a tap-in then with a gorgeous finish after Fabián Ruiz’s third assist of the game.
With 20 minutes to go the game was done and dusted, and Luis Enrique made changes to rest his best players and run out the clock against a German team that looked lost and hopeless. Mikel Oyarzabal added insult to injury with a tap-in with two minutes to go, and Spain made it 6-0.
There was barely any stoppage time as the referee showed some mercy to the Germans and the final whistle came to end a magical night for Luis Enrique’s Spain, which looks like the best national team on Earth right now.
