Barcelona players test negative after playing vs. coronavirus positive player
All players should be available against Elche
Three Cornellà players have tested positive for coronavirus, including one who played against Barcelona in the cup, prompting fears the infection would spread, according to reports in Spain. However, as things stand now, antibody tests have turned up negative for Barcelona players, meaning all should be available to play against Elche.
Another Cornellà player with the virus was in the stadium during the match but was barred from playing, while the third one was prevented from stepping into the stadium at all.
Coronavirus tests are common these days to prevent spread of the disease, with cases currently surging in Spain. Thankfully, it is said that the Cornellà players are not facing any symptoms. It is expected that Barcelona will continue testing players as per regulations.
Barcelona defeated Cornellà 2-0 in extra time in the Copa del Rey after missing two penalties in regular time. Ousmane Dembélé and Martin Braithwaite scored the goals that sent the Catalans to the next round. They are set to play Elche today.
