Cornellà 0-2 Barça: Recap
This was... depressing.
Barcelona are through to the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey thanks to a 2-0 win over Third Division Cornellà, with both goals coming in extra time after Barça missed two penalties in regulation. This was a bad game from start to finish, but Barça found a way to win and move on in the Spanish Cup.
FIRST HALF
Nothing happened for 38 minutes. Then Ronald Araujo won a penalty in the box, which Miralem Pjanic missed thanks to a great save by Cornellà goalkeeper Ramón.
Halftime.
SECOND HALF
Nothing happened for the first 35 minutes of the second half. Then Clément Lenglet won a penalty in the box, which Ousmane Dembélé missed badly giving Ramón an easy save in the middle of the goal.
Barça created two huge chances in the last 10 minutes, but Martin Braithwaite and Araujo missed easy opportunities inside the six-yard box, and this awful game went to extra time.
EXTRA TIME
Barça finally took the lead two minutes into extra time thanks to a powerful strike from distance by Dembélé, and the Blaugrana just ran the clock out and waited for the final whistle to come, though there was still time for Pedri and Dembélé to create some magic down the right, and Braithwaite scored a tap-in to make it 2-0.
It finally did, and Barça have avoided the upset in the Cup of upsets and are through to the Round of 16. That’s about the only positive to take from a truly depressing 120 minutes of football. Thank goodness this is over.
