Lionel Messi’s advice to Francisco Trincão that helped him score
The Argentine told him to capitalize on his position
Lionel Messi gave some advice to Francisco Trincão which helped the young forward score the winning goal for FC Barcelona over Real Betis, 3-2.
Trincão had had a shooting opportunity in the box but had looked to pass it to Messi. The Argentine was not in a good position, and the play was cut short. The captain went to the youngster and told him that if he ever had another clear chance in a similar position, to not be afraid and to try the shot.
Later on, Betis defender Víctor Ruiz had the ball in his own box. Trincão picked his pocket and found himself with a bit of space in the area. This time, from a similar position, he did not look for any teammate. He unleashed a thundering left foot effort which left the keeper, Joel Robles, with no chance. The ball found the underside of the bar and bounced into the goal.
It was the ex-Sporting Clube de Braga’s first goal for his new club, and it came at a crucial time, with time expiring and a tied scoreline.
The hope now for the Portuguese is that he will continue his adjustment into the club and that this goal will give him the confidence to continue banging them in.
