The striker has been looking back at his time at Barcelona

Luis Suarez has given a new interview where he’s offered his thoughts on former team-mates Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann as well as new Barca boss Ronald Koeman.

The Uruguay international departed last summer and is enjoying life at Atletico Madrid. He’s the top scorer in La Liga and has helped his team to the top of the table.

Koeman has claimed recently the decision to allow Suarez to leave was made before he arrived, but Suarez has told Onda Cero he was told it was Koeman’s decision.

“When Barça made it official that they did not count on me, they began conversations with Atleti, with Cholo, with Miguel Ángel .... Koeman called me and told me that they did not count on me.

“At Barça they told me not to go to train, I told them that as long as I had a contract I would train. The club did not give me any explanation, they only told me that it was a decision of the coach.

“Not only Messi, many Barça fans didn’t understand the decision ... I didn’t want to be a problem. It hurt me to leave Barça.”

Suarez also spoke about Messi and said he spoke to the Barcelona captain after Wednesday’s stunning Copa del Rey win over Granada.

“This afternoon I spoke with Messi; He was very happy about yesterday’s victory. He is at a spectacular level, he is the best in the world

“Messi will retire wherever he wants, he will be able to decide whether at Barcelona, Argentina or wherever.

“Of course I see myself arguing with Messi in a Barça-Atleti, on the pitch we are rivals but outside friends.”

The Uruguay international also blasted rumors that he and Messi did not get on well with Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman is in great form currently for Barca and Suarez insisted it’s “totally false that Leo and I had a bad relationship with Griezmann.”
