Real Madrid dropped points again

It’s been a good weekend to be a Barcelona fan with Saturday’s Copa del Rey win being followed up with another twist in the title race on Sunday.

Leaders Atletico Madrid bounced back to life with a 5-0 win over Eibar, but Real Madrid dropped points after being held to a goalless draw against Getafe.

The results mean that Barcelona will be crowned champions if they win their last eight games, which includes a visit from Atletico Madrid next month.

Of course, that’s a lot easier said than done but it’s certainly another boost for Ronald Koeman’s side who can keep on dreaming about winning the double.

All three title-chasers are back in action in midweek. Real Madrid play at Cadiz on Wednesday, while Atletico host Huesca on Thursday and Barca welcome Getafe.

The Catalan giants should be on something of a high after Saturday’s impressive win over Athletic but the timing of the games means Koeman’s men could be eight points off the top, with albeit two games in hand, before Thursday’s match kicks off.

The visit from Getafe is one of four home games Barca have left at the Camp Nou. Granada, Atletico and Celta also have to visit before the end of the campaign, while Barca must still head to Villarreal, Valencia, Levante and Eibar.
