A look at the latest gossip

Ousmane Dembele’s future at Barcelona continues to make headlines with the latest update suggesting negotiations over a new deal “are not progressing” and his future at the club is “increasingly complicated.”

The Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022 and it’s believed Barca want to renew at the end of the season or sell to avoid losing the 23-year-old on a free next summer.

Diario Sport report that Barca have made “several calls” to Dembele’s camp to try and talk about a new deal but aren’t really getting anywhere.

The club feel Dembele’s representatives would rather wait to begin talks which is not a situation that would suit the Catalan giants.

The report adds that Dembele seems happy at Barcelona but may have to take a pay cut to stay, while the club believe he will not lack for offers if he is made available.

The Frenchman has managed to shrug off his injury problems this season, although it was reported last week he’s struggling with pubalgia. Dembele didn’t start Saturday’s Copa del Rey final win over Athletic but did come on for the final few minutes.

Meanwhile, Samuel Umtiti is another player whose future is unclear. The Frenchman’s injury problems have seen him drop down the pecking order at the Camp Nou and he’s only made five La Liga starts in 2020-21.

Umtiti is expected to leave at the end of the season and has attracted interest from Zenit St Petersburg. Barca are keen to sell but Umtiti “isn’t convinced” by Zenit and is waiting for different bids from other clubs, according to Fabrizio Romano.
