The Brazilian takes the brunt of criticism after PSG’s exit

The rumors that Neymar wants to finally return to FC Barcelona are heating up as the French media has unleashed a wave of criticism on the Brazilian star after Paris Saint-Germain’s exit from the UEFA Champions League.

“The Brazilian missed the semi-final completely. Without inspiration, he was never able to carry the weight of the team as he had done against Bayern. Disappointing,” wrote Le Parisien.

L’Equipe rated him 3/10, saying “he had promised to die in the field, sadly he missed the match... repeated turnovers, bad passes, risky choices... he couldn’t make any difference with his dribbling, especially against Walker.”

“Was it really necessary to make six touches of the ball each time you touched the ball?” asked France Football, beginning one of the most intense critiques of the player.

“Neymar revealed his dark side against Manchester City, as unbearable as possible, he wanted to do everything on his own. [...] Adding to this egocentricity a horrible ending where he sought to physically hurt the City players... Carried away by his emotions once again, Neymar was catastrophic,” they said.

On RMC, former Monaco and PSG winger Jérôme Rothen was harsh as well.

“We expected more from Neymar, including me. This player is incredible when he is alone and has players in front of him who make runs. I’m going to blame him for some things, but not just him. You want to renew him but also you have to rethink it. When he is not as good, as he was today, you have to tell him. Leonardo is mild towards him because he has to be renewed. If they want to get to the next level with Neymar, they have to review his behavior,” the former player said.
