Pre-season training is underway

Barcelona were back at work and in pre-season training on Monday ahead of the start of the new La Liga campaign.

Coach Ronald Koeman took charge of the first session at the Ciutat Esportiva as he gets ready for a second La Liga campaign in charge of the Catalans.

There are obviously a host of players missing because of Euro 2020 and the Copa America which means a lot of Barcelona B youngsters getting the chance to train with the first team.

Monday’s session saw first-teamers including Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, Neto, Riqui Puig Sergino Dest, Miralem Pjanic, and Samuel Umtiti all in attendance, while youngsters such as Alex Collado, Inaki Pena and new signing Yusuf Demir were also put through their paces.

Injured stars Ansu Fati, Marc-André ter Stegen and Ousmane Dembélé will continue with their recovery plans until they are in a position to return to group training. It’s been reported that Fati could continue his rehab in Madrid before heading back to Barca.

Ilaix Moriba and Alejandro Balde will reportedly train with Barca B as they have not yet renewed their contracts at the club. Both players are out of contract in 2022 but are expected to be in the first-team squad next season if they renew.

Barca’s first pre-season game is against Nastic on July 21 and the team then play Girona three days later. Both friendlies will be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
