The club has work to do

Barcelona kick off their 2021-22 La Liga campaign in just three days at home to Real Sociedad but still have plenty of work to do before the opener.

The Catalans still need to lighten the salary bill if they are to register new signings Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, and (possibly) Emerson Royal in time for the game.

I say possibly because have been reports that Emerson is already registered. Barca’s thinking is that he is not a new signing because the club has simply activated their right to bring him back from Real Betis.

Elsewhere, the one player Barca didn’t want to leave has already gone but the club is still struggling to find homes for unwanted stars who seen in no rush to go anywhere.

Speculation continues to surround the futures of players such as Miralem Pjanic, Samuel Umtiti, and Martin Braithwaite but at the moment all three remain at the Camp Nou.

Catalunya Radio reckon that Barca are “confident” the club will be able to register all four new-boys in time for the visit of La Real.

The report states the club is “working against the clock” on the issues. Negotiations over salary reductions continue, while there is also hope Umtiti, Pjanic or Braithwaite could go.

There’s also a suggestion Barca may only register Memphis and Emerson in time for Sunday as Sergio Aguero is out anyway with injury and Eric Garcia is only just back from the Olympics.

There is some good news, however, in the shape of Yusuf Demir. It seems the teenager has already been registered, as technically he’s part of Barca B, and so will be able to be called upon against Real Sociedad.
