Emerson Royal officially presented as Barcelona player
The fullback wears the blaugrana strip for the first time
Emerson Royal has been officially presented as an FC Barcelona player. The Brazilian took a few touches with the ball while wearing the full Barcelona kit for the first time at the Camp Nou. He then posed for a picture with club president Joan Laporta.
His shirt did not have a number but it did read “E. Royal.”
Emerson, whose full name is Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior, is one of four new signings for the Catalans this summer transfer window - alongside Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, and Sergio Agüero.
Originally from São Paulo, he debuted at senior level with Ponte Preta before joining Atlético Mineiro in Brazil. Real Betis and Barcelona collaborated to bring him to Europe. He played at Betis first until Barcelona triggered a clause to fully make him their player.
A Brazilian U20, U23, and now senior level international, Emerson was part of the squad that got second place at Copa América.
“It is a pleasure for me to be here in Barcelona,” he said.
“I always say that I had a dream to be here, and I want to promise that every day that I enter the pitch I will improve. I know how hard I have worked to be here and I will take advantage of the opportunity. Victories cannot be assured, we can have good and bad days, but I want to express my commitment that whenever I enter the field, I will do my best, do not doubt that.”
