The Catalans need to lower the wage bill to register Messi, but there is a “total agreement” on the terms of the contract

The final details regarding Lionel Messi’s contract have been smoothed out, and the player is only awaiting for FC Barcelona to clear enough cap space to fully register him.

While it’s been no mystery that the Argentine wanted to stay at the Camp Nou next season, no agreement had been fully reached between the player and the team.

Now, we are hearing that there are no longer any details to sort out regarding Messi’s contract.

It’s now up to Barcelona to find a solution so they can fully register the superstar to their team for the upcoming season.

As things stand, Barcelona are above La Liga’s salary cap and will have to reduce wages one way or another, or else they will be unable to register all their players.

Club president Joan Laporta has also reportedly been looking at other solutions, such as voiding player contracts and then fighting the inevitable lawsuits that would result.

He will sign for five years and accept a 50% salary reduction.

The player is still on vacation following his Copa América triumph with Argentina. It’s understood that he will not train with the team until he signs his new contract. He may miss the friendly Joan Gamper Trophy match against Juventus.
