The midfielder could sign a two-year extension

Sergi Roberto is reportedly in talks with Barcelona over a new two-year contract at the club which would include a “significant wage cut.”

According to Diario Sport, it’s possible a new deal “could be reached before the end of the month” which would keep Roberto at the Camp Nou unti June 2024.

Roberto’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he’s already spoken about how he’s willing to take a pay-cut to help the club out.

There had been a few whispers over the summer that Roberto could be sold, but it now looks certain he’ll stay and follow Gerard Pique’s example of reducing his salary.

Roberto is back fit again after a difficult time last time out. The versatile star missed time through Covid and injury and struggled for form when he did play.

The 29-year-old has started the 2021-22 season on a brighter note, arriving as a substitute against Real Sociedad and scoring the team’s fourth goal in stoppage time.

Roberto has been used primarily at right-back in recent seasons but looks set to feature in midfield in the new campaign with Sergino Dest and Emerson the options at full-back.
