The coach’s future is uncertain

Ronald Koeman’s future at Barcelona is once again dominating headlines after the midweek defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

It’s already been reported that Koeman is under pressure ahead of games against Granada, Levante and Cadiz and any slip-ups could cost the Dutchman his job at the Camp Nou.

Friday brings a fresh update from Diario Sport who reckon that Jordi Cruyff has been asked if he’s willing to take over from Koeman if the coach is fired.

The answer was apparently a resounding “no.” The report reckons Cruyff thinks Koeman is doing OK, considering the club’s injury problems, and is also a close friend which is said to be “an important factor.”

Cruyff returned to the club in August in a “strategic role” after coaching spells with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, Ecuador, and Shenzhen.

He was asked about the possibility of becoming Barcelona coach back in July but made it clear he wasn’t interested then either.

“Not in my head, nor that of Barcelona’s is the idea of replacing Koeman,” he said.

“It would seem very ugly to me, I have principles.”

President Joan Laporta has backed Koeman recently but the rumor mill seems to think he’s rapidly running out of patience with the Dutchman, although it’s not clear who he might be thinking about to replace the coach.
