Betis 0-5 Barça Femení: Recap
Another dominant display from the champs
Barcelona Women continued their perfect start to the season with a second straight 5-0 win in the Primera División, this time against Real Betis in their first away game of the campaign. The home team fought hard and survived Barça’s pressure for almost an entire half, but the Blaugrana opened the gates in the second half and cruised to a second win in two games.
FIRST HALF
Betis came out with a five-woman defense and parked the bus from the start, trying to slow down the pace and waste as much time as possible against the best team in the land. And for almost 50 minutes, the plan worked.
Barça had all of the possession and created plenty of chances, with Alexia Putellas and Caroline Graham Hansen involved in everything good the Blaugrana did in attack, but Betis goalkeeper Gaëlle Thalmann had an incredible first half with at least six big saves to keep her team in it.
Betis had one attack the entire half and had a triple chance in the 45th minute which included a shot against the post, but Barça survived and finally found the back of the net deep into stoppage time, when Asisat Oshoala headed a cross against the post and Putellas was first to the rebound to finally break down the Betis defense in the last action of the half.
At halftime, a Barça siege was finally rewarded with a much-deserved goal and they looked hungry for more in the second half.
SECOND HALF
The floodgates were always going to open as soon as Barça scored first, and they didn’t take long to start destroying Betis. Asisat Oshoala and Mariona Caldente made it 3-0 within the first six minutes of the second half, and the two quick goals completely took the life out of the home team.
Barça continued to attack as they usually do, and the goals kept coming: first it was Fridolina Rölfo who scored an amazing goal with her first touch as a substitute, and Oshoala got her second of the day to make it 5-0 with 20 minutes to go.
The Blaugrana kept possession in the final minutes and continued to attack looking for a sixth, but couldn’t create a clear chance and had to settle for five when the final whistle came.
That’s two Manitas in two games for Barça Femení, who remain just as dominant under new coach Jonatan Giráldez going into the international break. The tougher games are still to come, but the early signs are excellent.
