The Frenchman is heading back to Atletico Madrid

Yesterday marked the end of one of the more strange Barcelona tenures in recent history. Barcelona made a deal with Atletico Madrid for the loan and eventual purchase of Antoine Griezmann after two years at the Camp Nou.

Barca paid around €120 million for the Frenchman and ended up selling him for what will end up being around €40m in the obligatory transfer clause. They didn’t get a player in return as had been discussed for the entirety of the summer, and just a third of what they paid for him.

There were certainly some good times, but mostly strange moments as Barca fans and management tried to figure out where Griezmann fit in the Barca puzzle. He wished goodbye to the fans as he returns to his home after 102 games and 35 goals for the Catalan giants.

“Dear Culers, I say goodbye thankful for your love. I gave everything for this shirt, I’ve been involved with this great club and I’m leaving sad for not having been able to enjoy more with you in the stands, but I’m proud to have been one of yours.”
