Ronald Koeman gets ‘annoyed’ again
The Dutchman talks Joan Laporta
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman says he has a “good” relationship with president Joan Laporta but admits to being “annoyed” by recent speculation surrounding a contract renewal.
Reports have suggested Laporta was willing to extend Koeman’s contract as long as he fulfilled three conditions. One of those conditions was to hand more game time to players such as Riqui Puig.
Koeman has been talking about the speculation and made it pretty clear he will not be told which players he can pick for his team.
“Last Monday he said in a TV program that there is confidence in me. That has been good. Before that, there were two moments when things came out that didn’t indicate support for the trainer. I was annoyed by that. Two and a half weeks ago we had a conversation about a new contract.
“Nothing was leaked to the media. Until the chairman had a session with journalists last Tuesday about the situation of the club, also the financial side and such. In the end he suddenly started talking about the contract. A day later, the newspapers stated: Koeman can get a new contract under three conditions. Then I said: this is not possible. I need to be able to control how we play and who I field. Then the chairman came on Monday with that TV interview. And that has been good.”

Laporta was also asked about the same rumors earlier this week in his interview with Esports 3 and denied he had asked Koeman to give Puig more game time.
He said, “I have never said that he has to play. I could have said that I like him, as I like Collado, but I will never pressure my coach.” Puig hasn’t managed a single minute so far in 2021-22.
