The UEFA president has had another pop

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has taken aim at the three European Super League rebels and says he wouldn’t mind if Barcelona, Juventus, and Real Madrid weren’t in the Champions League.

Ceferin also accused the presidents of the three clubs of “trying to kill football” ahead of the start of the group stages of Europe’s top competition next week.

“I would not mind if they left. It is very funny that they want to create a new competition and at the same time they want to play in the Champions League this season,” he said.

“[These three clubs] simply have incompetent leaders. Those guys [Florentino Perez, Joan Laporta and Andrea Agnelli] have tried to kill football.”

Ceferin also singled out Florentino Perez for more criticism after seeing Real Madrid fail to land Kylian Mbappe in the summer transfer window.

“[He] is criticising [UEFA] and saying that the club can only survive with a Super League and then is trying to sign Kylian Mbappe for 180 million euros,” he said.

Laporta stuck up for the project once again this week. He told Onze, “The project is alive. UEFA cannot act against us. We will see what the courts say.”
