Sheffield United could return for Collado in January - report
A summer move to the English club broke down
Barcelona are still trying to figure out what to do with Alex Collado and are hoping to find a club for the 22-year-old at some point this season.
The Catalan giants haven’t been able to register Collado for the 2021-22 campaign but he has been training with the club.
The youngster did hold talks with Club Brugge and Sheffield United during the summer transfer window but both proposed moves broke down, leaving Collado in a tricky situation.
Mundo Deportivo reckon that Sheffield United remain keen on the youngster and could try again to sign him in the January transfer window.
President Joan Laporta spoke about Collado in his recent interview with Onze and explained why the Brugge deal fell through.
“When everything was done [with Brugge], at the last hour they wanted a mandatory purchase option and the player himself said ‘no’. We are trying to register him, but it will be very difficult. He has a lot of magic. He has something different. He is one of those players that the Barça fans like.”
Meanwhile, director of football Mateu Alemany offered some insight into why a move to Bramall Lane collapsed on deadline day.
“It’s a special situation. For weeks we’ve been talking about Sheffield, it was all done but for reasons that we still don’t know about it didn’t happen. The time limit passed and the club did not complete the documentation.”
Collado’s name came up again after Barcelona’s defeat to Bayern on Tuesday. This time is was Ramon Planes who was asked about the midfielder and he admitted the club are “looking at how to solve this situation.”
There have been reports Barca tried to register Collado with Barca B and also hoped they could register him with the first team after Martin Braithwaite’s injury. However, it seems unlikely either move will be allowed and Collado may have to wait until January to try and find some playing time.
