‘Stability is a must’ - Laporta reacts to Xavi decision
The club chief was very happy to keep his coach around for one more year
Barcelona made big news on Thursday with the official announcement that Xavi Hernández has reversed his decision to leave the club this summer and will stay on as first team coach until the end of the 2024-25 season.
President Joan Laporta and Xavi spoke to the press to confirm the news, and the club chief was clearly very happy to keep his coach around for one more year. Laporta also promised “changes and adjustments” to help Xavi, and is happy to maintain stability in the head coach position as he continues the club’s rebuild.
“Yesterday he conveyed to me his enthusiasm for the project and the team. Some changes and adjustments will be made to improve. Since we met yesterday it was clear that it was good news. Stability is a must in projects that are successful and especially for this one.
“When we analyze things, our coach always thinks about the best for Barça. It is great news that Xavi continues. The team we have, which is consolidating, with very young people, it needs this stability. Xavi is a reference for young people and we can see it today I am especially happy.
“We did not discuss with any other manager as we were just waiting for Xavi to change his mind”.
Laporta would not elaborate much on what changes and adjustments he plans to make, but one can only assume they relate to the first team squad and what could be a very busy summer transfer window, with several names linked with a sale as well as a list of potential incoming players that will likely be heavily influenced by Xavi.
Are you as happy about Xavi staying as Laporta is, Barça fans?
