Guardiola offers update on Cancelo’s future
The defender’s future is uncertain
Pep Guardiola has offered an update on Joao Cancelo’s future after the defender’s season-long loan with Barcelona.
Cancelo is keen to stay at Barcelona, and Joan Laporta has said the club want him to continue, but it remains to be seen if he will be at the club for next season.
Guardiola has been asked about the situation and says City will hold talks with Barcelona but if an agreement can’t be reached he will have to head back to Manchester.
“It has to be the best for everyone,” he told reporters.
“The two clubs will sit down. He is our player and, if an agreement is not reached, he will have to return in the preseason. If he wants to stay here, and the clubs agree, it will be done again.”
Cancelo and Guardiola clashed during their time together at the Etihad, with Cancelo having accusing City of telling lies about his behaviour at the club.
