The Uruguayan is not ruling out leaving the club this summer

Barcelona center-back Ronald Araujo has begun his rehabilitation process following surgery on a hamstring injury suffered while in Uruguay duty at the Copa America last month, with the expectation being he will miss at least four months of action.

That news led to reports that Barça are considering not registering Araujo until January to create salary cap space, which would in theory help complete their summer transfer plans and register all available players within La Liga’s books for the first half of the season.

And Araujo is not happy with that possibility. That’s according to Uruguayan journalist Nicolás Saavedra, who claims Ronald is upset with Barça over the registration rumors because the player believes he can return before January but would be unable to play without the clearance from the league.

Araujo is now “considering his future”, Saavedra says, with his contract extension not yet agreed despite months of negotiations and with plenty of interest from big clubs around Europe like Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Saavedra claims Ronald is open to “all possibilities”, including leaving Barça this summer if a good enough offer arrives and the Blaugrana are also willing to part ways with the player. Sporting director Deco is reportedly in favor of Araujo’s sale due to the current contract dispute and thinks he can still get good value for the defender despite his injury, so this story could definitely become very interesting in the next few weeks.
