The forward wants a return to Camp Nou

João Félix has not given up on his desire to return to Barcelona for a second season and has formally rejected a move to Aston Villa, according to Diario SPORT.

The Portuguese forward returned to Atlético Madrid for the start of his preseason but is training by himself as he is no longer part of Diego Simeone’s plans, and the Colchoneros were reportedly very close to completing a permanent transfer to Unai Emery’s side in the Premier League.

But Félix has said no and made it clear that he only wants a move to Barça, the same tactic that worked successfully for the 24-year-old last year when he joined the Blaugrana on loan. Atlético have no interest in another loan and want to permanently get rid of Félix, but the player believes he can convince his club to once again accept an offer from Barça at the very end of the transfer window.

Barça coach Hansi Flick is in favor of a move for Félix but only as a market opportunity, with sporting director Deco also looking at Félix as a last resort if his two favorite targets, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo, are not signed in the next few weeks.

Benfica are reportedly also interested in a reunion with Félix but cannot meet Atlético’s asking price of €60 million, so this appears to once again be a long soap opera in which Barça will only take Félix if there are no other options and the player won’t accept any offer other than Barça’s.

Déjà vu?
