The young striker is already above Vitor Roque in the coach’s pecking order

The permanent signing of Pau Víctor from Girona was Barcelona’s first piece of business of the 2024-25 season and went largely unnoticed by those who didn’t follow the striker’s excellent performances for Barça Atlètic on loan last year, but his showing in the preseason opener against Manchester City certainly made him a household name among Barça fans.

His calm and composed finish for the first goal and the beautiful dummy that allowed Pablo Torre to score the second in Barça’s 2-2 draw with Pep Guardiola’s side were the highlights of a complete performance from a 22-year-old who has all the attributes of a high-level striker, and those qualities have been highly appreciated by his coach.

In fact, after the first three weeks of training and his great performance in the first real piece of action, Víctor has already risen to the top of Hansi Flick’s list of backups for Robert Lewandowski, according to Mundo Deportivo. Víctor is already ahead of Vitor Roque in the pecking order, with the young Brazilian struggling against City and continuing a worrying trend of poor performances since joining in January.

The report says Víctor’s attitude in training, his personality and his intelligence on the pitch have already made him a favorite in the dressing room, and he is seen as real option to not only replace Lewandowski during matches but also start in less important games to give the Pole a rest.

Víctor will have another chance to impress in Saturday’s El Clásico against Real Madrid in New Jersey, and he’ll no doubt raise his stock even higher if he can put on another great display.
