The boss previewed Sunday’s derby

Barcelona are back in La Liga action this weekend for the first meeting of the season against local rivals Espanyol, and Barça coach Hansi Flick spoke in a press conference on Saturday to preview Sunday’s derby.

The German boss touched on many topics, including the progress of Ronald Araujo as he recovers from injury, the importance of Frenkie de Jong to the team, and whether or not Ansu Fati could be named in the starting XI on Sunday.

Here are a few highlights from Hansi’s conference:

On Ronald Araujo

“We’re not putting pressure on him. He’s progressing well. He’s improving, he’s increasing the intensity in training, but we won’t put pressure on him because the injury is considerable. But the way I see it, he’s on the right track. He’s fantastic. The passes he makes are incredible.”

On Frenkie de Jong

“I value what I see with Frenkie very positively. In the second half against Madrid he brought calm. He is a wonderful player for the team. The injury recovery has been long and we will see how he adapts. It is very positive that he is back.”

On Ansu Fati starting against Espanyol

“I’m happy with Ansu. He’s totally 100 percent fit. I don’t know if he’ll be in the starting lineup. We’ll see tomorrow.”

On possibly postponing Barcelona derby in solidarity with Valencia floods

“If it were me, I might do it because it is an incredible tragedy for Valencia and Spain as a whole.”
