Some big targets

Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal says he’s hoping to return soon after picking up an ankle sprain against Leganes at the weekend.

Yamal has been ruled out for up to four weeks by Barcelona, which he has described as just “a knock,” in a video message after receiving the Golden Boy Trophy from Tuttosport.

“I’m very happy. I can feel the affection from the fans and any recognition like this makes me very happy. I had a knock yesterday,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to the team to help them. I have to recover but we’ll be back soon.”

Yamal has also won the Kopa Trophy this year as well as Euro 2024 and is hoping to add the biggest prizes to his trophy collection with club and country.

“Before the age of 21 my goal is to win the World Cup with Spain, the Champions League and two more leagues with Barça,” he added.

“It is an honor to receive this Golden Boy Award. It’s the first step of a great career that I hope to have. Although I am very aware that individual awards are the result of collective work, so I want to continue doing well at Barça and with Spain to be able to accumulate more trophies.”

Yamal also spoke about the possibility of picking up the Ballon d’Or at some point in the future.

“If I win with Barça, especially the Champions League, I will have more chances to aspire to the individual trophy that crowns a player’s career: the Ballon d’Or,” he added.

“No player wins individual awards if he can’t win anything collectively with his team. So winning collectively will be closer to the individual awards, because one thing is a consequence of the other.”

Barcelona are hoping to land silverware this season and still top La Liga but have dropped points in recent weeks, with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid both hot on on their heels and with games in hand.
