Flick confirms Araujo return and hints at rotations against Leganés
The Uruguayan might even start on Sunday
Barcelona return to La Liga action on Sunday with a home game against struggling Leganés, and Ronald Araujo is set to make his season debut after missing almost six months with a hamstring injury suffered last summer.
The Uruguayan has been slowly integrated into the team dynamic as the coaching staff carefully managed his workload in training, but Hansi Flick confirmed in a press conference on Saturday that Ronald is ready to go and could even be part of the starting XI.
Flick also opened the door to a rotation of his side given the heavy minutes most of his starters have played recently.
“[On Araujo] The plan is for him to play a few minutes, I don’t know if he’ll start. I don’t know how many minutes. Maybe he’ll be in the starting eleven. The plan is for him to play. He can do it and he’s ready.”
”Leganés is tomorrow and we are not thinking about Atlético. The issue is to decide on the same team, but there are also players who can play as a substitute. They have quality. It is good to make some rotations, but we have not decided yet. It could be.”
Flick has never been a fan of rotating his side going back to his Bayern Munich, but the depth of his squad now that most of the players are healthy allows him to make more changes, especially after such a physically and mentally demanding night in Dortmund.
We won’t know until the lineups are released, but there’s a good chance Araujo will be just one of the fresh names on the teamsheet.
