The coach will miss the final two games of the year

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick will not be on the touchline for the final two matches of the year as his two-game suspension due to his red card against Real Betis will stand after the club’s appeal was dismissed earlier this week.

The footage makes it pretty obvious that Flick did absolutely nothing to deserve a caution of any kind, but the coach still decided to take responsibility and accept his ban when he was asked about the situation in a press conference on Friday.

But Flick also made a point to ask for the referees to show the same accountability when they are perceived to make mistakes.

“My reaction was not good, that’s clear. I tried to talk to Frenkie. There was something between Iñigo and Vitor Roque. I don’t want us to complain to the referees. I don’t want to waste energy on something that we can’t change. We have to accept the decisions. It was a hard blow, but we have to accept it.

“Maybe I should work on my behaviour. I only ask that they always referee the same, in the same way. But we have to play better. What I want, and they do, is not to complain to the referees. It’s different from a few years ago. Our philosophy is to do what we can do. The referees can also improve. We are human beings and they make mistakes.”

Good luck getting any accountability from La Liga referees, Hansi. If anything, you’ve made yourself an even bigger target.

Sigh.
