Puyol says Cubarsi is ‘more like Pique than me’
The club legend is impressed
Carles Puyol has been talking about Pau Cubarsi and highlighted just how impressed he has been by the Barcelona defender.
Cubarsi is already a regular fixture in the Barcelona starting XI at the age of just 17 and has even attracted comparisons with Puyol.
The former Barca skipper is clearly a big fan of Cubarsi but says he thinks he’s more like Gerard Pique.
“He is a very complete player, with a very good passing range from the ball. In this sense he is more like Gerard Pique than me. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk to him,” he told El Pais.
“I like that he has such a regular performance, often without mistakes. It’s impressive. He is very serious and professional.
“He is very smart defensively. He’s competitive and he’s always focused. It’s not easy to have that peace of mind at that age.”
Cubarsi has also admitted that Pique and Puyol were his idols growing up and that his goal is “to have the leadership and the character of Puyol.”
