The German coach was handed a straight red card

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was sent off during the team’s La Liga clash with Real Betis on Saturday at the Benito Villamarin.

The German saw red just on 65 minutes after Real Betis had been awarded a penalty for a challenge by Frenkie de Jong on Vitor Roque.

The decision was not given initially by the match referee, but he changed his mind after being called to review the incident on the pitch-side monitors by VAR.

Flick protested the decision on the touchline and presumably said something out of turn as he was shown a red card and forced to leave the pitch.

To make matters worse for Barca, Giovani Lo Celso converted the spot-kick to level the game after Robert Lewandowski had opened the scoring.

Flick will also face further punishment for his red card, with the German boss now set to be handed a touchline ban too.

Barca have two La Liga games left before the Christmas break. Flick’s side face Leganes and Atletico Madrid next, with both games to be played at Montjuic.
