Pay rise & a lower release clause: How Barca convinced Araujo to stay
Some key details are being reported
Ronald Araujo has not only agreed to stay at Barcelona, despite interest from Juventus, but he has also reached agreement on a new contract.
The defender, whose current deal expires in 2026, has an agreement in principle on an extension with the Catalans, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Positive talks took place between the player and Barça director Deco, fully involved in the process.
Formal contract details to be discussed in the next days.

More details are being reported by Relevo who say Deco convinced Araujo by saying the club were willing to give him a pay rise to stay.
Araujo had been earning less than team-mates such as Marc André Ter Stegen, Robert Lewandowski, Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati but is now set for an increase.
The defender has also asked for his release clause to be lowered - from an eye-watering one billion euros - apparently in case he find himself in a similar situation in the future.
While Araujo wants to stay, the report claims he “does not want to tie himself down” as he’s still only 25 and is aware things can change quickly in football.
There’s no detail on what the new release clause will be, only that a more realistic amount will be included in the new clause, but it’s certainly an interesting detail.
